The Internal Revenue Service’s website provides a tool specifically designed for checking the status of amended returns.

Similar to the tool for refund status updates on originally filed returns, this application allows you to retrieve status updates regarding the processing of amended tax returns for individuals.  I learned the hard way that the application for originally filed returns does not work for amended returns.
